My Own Worst Enemy

winked at myself in broken mirrors

drank off the layers of sharpened senses

Picasso put me back together

swam in a shallow jar of fears

noose-necked again and unaccepted

winked at myself in broken mirrors

picked my death gown out last year

it’s too small I must confess

Picasso put me back together

I lament and let it fester

bothered by the thought of friends

winked at myself in broken mirrors

self sabotage, my only pleasure

I feel my time will surely pass

Picasso put me back together

paper skin; insults will sever

I burn this face with poison kisses

winked at myself in broken mirrors

Picasso put me back together

  1. Love your villanelle, especially:
‘winked at myself in broken mirrors
drank off the layers of sharpened senses’
and the leitmotif: ‘Picasso put me back together’.
The final stanza has a serious kick to it:.
